TiC pale gray, cubic crystal system, insoluble in water, has the very high chemical stability, almost had no chemical reaction with hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, but can be dissolved in aqua regia, nitric acid, and hydrofluoric acid, also soluble in alkaline solution of oxide.
TiC is a crystal metallic iron gray, belong to the NaCl type face-centered cubic structure, lattice constant is 0.4329 nm, space group for Fm3m, carbon atoms in the lattice positions with titanium atoms are equivalent, TiC with strong covalent bonds between atoms combine, several characteristics of similar metal, such as high melting point, boiling point, and hardness, hardness is second only to diamond, good thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity, at low temperature even show the superconductivity. TiC, therefore, is widely used in the manufacture of metal ceramic, heat-resistant alloy, hard alloy, wear-resistant material, high temperature radiation material and other high temperature vacuum devices, with its complex phase of the preparation of materials in mechanical processing, metallurgical minerals, aerospace and fusion, and other fields has been widely used
