Properties and applications of iridium

Iridium is one of the strongest metal corrosion resistance: it can withstand almost all acid, aqua regia, molten metal under high temperature, and even the portland. But some molten salts, such as sodium cyanide and potassium cyanide, and oxygen and halogen (especially fluorine) at high temperature or erosion of iridium.
Iridium is rare and precious metal, is an alloy of platinum and iridium in platinum, rare degree. Its melting point, strength and hardness are very high. The color is silvery white, with strong metallic luster, hardness 7. The relative density of 22.40, crisp but at high temperatures can be pressed into the foil or drawn into filaments, high melting point, up to 2454 degrees. Very stable chemical properties, insoluble in aqua regia. Mainly used in the manufacture of scientific instruments, thermocouple, resistance silk etc.. High hardness of iron and iridium platinum iridium alloy, used to manufacture the nib and platinum jewelry. Due to its high melting point and excellent corrosion resistance, iridium has been widely used in the field of high technology, such as aerospace, pharmaceutical and automotive industries.
